It's our series finale for Canada's Natives Long Ago! We had a Potlatch Party, a custom of the Natives of the North Pacific Coast. With details on food, games, crafts and activities, this party makes history exciting!
For our old fashioned tea party we made first class head coverings. Girls = fascinators and the boys = top hats. The boys loved their top hats! I expected them take them off as soon as I wasn't looking, but they wore them way longer than the girls wore their fascinators! These top hats make great magician hats, gentlemen's top hats or Leprechaun hats for St. Patrick's Day!
Today we learned about the Natives of the North Pacific Coast, and for our craft we made Paper Towel Roll Totem Poles. each child was so proud of his or her totem pole, and that it represented them! They all needed help at various times, but we just quietly worked away, and it made for a lovely morning.
My kids always like coming in and having a cup of hot chocolate to help warm them up and feel all cozy! How lovely to come in from the cold and have your hot chocolate with your very own Marshmallow Igloo. Mmmm! This is a lovely, easy craft that is not only cute, but edible, too!

In this lesson we learned about the Natives of the Subarctic, and how they used a tumpline to transport their belongings over distances. While this craft is supposed to be a tumpline, it really turned out to be a headband for some of the children, and a belt for others.
